Wedding Trends for 2012

Over the top and flashy? No more! In 2012 trends seem to be shifting toward more socially responsible, understated weddings. Instead of 1000 guests, brides choose 100 of their closest friends and family. They are spending less money on more eco-friendly things. Times are changing and here is how you can keep up!

GO GREEN! Choose locally grown flowers, recycled invitations and repurpose old items to become centerpieces. Guests will be wowed at your creativy rather than lavish spending.

VINTAGE! Celebrities are embracing old Hollywood styles and so can you! Achieve the "aged feel" by including a family tradition or putting old wedding photos from both families on the tables. Stop in at your local thrift store or antique store for awesome ideas on seating displays, table settings and decorations.

DO IT YOURSELF! Why spend extra money when there are things the 2012 bride can do herself? If you have the time and talent, many things can be home made. More and more brides are printing invitations, writing place cards and creating centerpieces. Dont bite off more than you can chew...try taking on one or two DIY projects.

Trend Alert: Mid-Week Weddings!

Planning a beach destination wedding is very different from planning in your hometown. Although the distance can sometimes make planning a bit tricky, it also allows for flexibility and cost savings! How? If you are planning a summertime wedding in the Outer Banks, chances are that your guests will see that as the perfect excuse for a vacation :)

With the majority of accommodations in the form of vacation rental homes, our towns promote week long vacation stays. If your guests are going to be in town for a whole week anyway, why not have your wedding on a Wednesday? Mid-week weddings really allow everyone to get the most out of their trip. You get a few days to relax and get some sun before the big day, and a few more to unwind after! The best part? No one has to check-out by 10 AM the morning after the wedding, unlike with a Friday or Saturday night event!

Many of our great OBX vendors will also offer different pricing for non-weekend weddings. Being flexible on your date can save you money, so you can splurge on other areas, such as food & beverage, or tuck the savings away for your newlywed years!

Over the years we've seen the number of weddings on non-traditional days on the rise, and can see this becoming even more popular in the future! Start planning your Summer Mid-Week Wedding today - your personal wedding coordinator is here to help you every step of the way!
